Our story
A path to education for all
St. Augustine began in 2007 when Judy Nyambura started teaching her two daughters and several neighbourhood children in a rented room. Her goal was simple and enduring: to give children from low-income families access to affordable, meaningful education.
The response from parents was immediate. Enrolment grew, the school moved to larger premises and, in 2010, celebrated its first learners completing the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education.
Today, St. Augustine has developed into a preparatory school serving learners from Preschool to Grade 9. The school continues to grow through the commitment of teachers, parents, volunteers, local friends and international partners.

Milestones
Growing with purpose
2007Judy Nyambura begins teaching her daughters and neighbourhood children in a rented room in Ruiru.
2009A relationship with the German School Nairobi begins, opening opportunities for educational and cultural exchange.
2010The school celebrates its first learners completing the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education.
2023The school expands to include Junior School and becomes St. Augustine Preparatory School.
December 2024Temporary classrooms are established to respond to enrolment growth and new education requirements.
January 2026A new construction phase provides an additional classroom and more washroom facilities for boys and girls.

St. Augustine is committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for all children. The next phase brings together practical projects that can improve daily school life, strengthen educational access and secure the school’s future.
Support that reaches the whole child
The school’s development needs extend beyond buildings. Learners also need meals, clean water, menstrual hygiene support, learning materials, digital skills, safe recreation and sponsorship where families cannot meet education costs.
Partners may support a complete project, sponsor a defined component or provide equipment, materials and professional expertise.
School Feeding Support Programme
Many parents bring food during lunch because their children cannot consistently afford school meals. A structured feeding programme would reduce inequality and ensure regular access to meals.

Student Sponsorship Programme
The school currently supports 32 learners who cannot afford fees, food and basic educational necessities. External sponsorship would reduce pressure on the school and give vulnerable children greater stability.

Menstrual Hygiene Support
Some girls miss school because they cannot afford sanitary products. Reliable access to menstrual hygiene supplies would improve attendance, confidence and equality.

Borehole and Clean Water Project
The school experiences serious water shortages, has no running water on the first floor and cannot consistently support proper handwashing. The present 4,000-litre tank is insufficient.

Teaching and Learning Materials
Teachers require more classroom materials to deliver lessons effectively and support learner participation.

Permanent Classroom Expansion
Grade separation involving 72 pupils has placed pressure on the school’s space. Staff rooms are currently being used as classrooms, leaving teachers without a dedicated working area.

School Playground Land Purchase
The school playground is on leased land and the lease expires at the end of the year. Losing it would remove the learners’ main safe outdoor space.

Project costing: Several figures in the support portfolio are still being confirmed, including meal costs, sponsorship costs, borehole and tank costs, classroom construction costs and the final land purchase amount. The website therefore avoids publishing unverified estimates.
